First Stop – San Francisco

Our hotel in San Francisco – just like the song..

Visiting the Ferry Building – interesting vendors, eats, and aromas.

We’re intrigued by the Ferry Building down by the waterfront.

Jonathan L.S. is the official greeter at the Ferry Building.

Oh I just don’t know… a Chinese kachina?

The Marin Ferry arriving at the Ferry Building.

A common sight on BART – tourists, maps, and cameras.
On our way to Chinatown.

Chinatown has an auspicious entry gate known as the Dragon Gate. We didn’t know it at the time, but we’d see hundreds more like this in China.

Right:  Festive flags adorn the sides of buildings.

The obligatory Asian antique store – many captivating Quan Yin statues.

The Trademark – traditional old Chinese architecture.

Pat and ‘Foo Dog’, Frosty’s American brother.

Chinatown…

.. all dressed up and festive

Neatly stacked Bok Choy at an outdoor market.

Festive Chinese lanterns – a ‘must’ when decorating!

Interesting mix of old and new – the TA building, and the ‘New Woey Loy Goey’ restaurant.

One of the many unique streetlights in Chinatown.

The Barbary Coast, born during the 1849 gold rush, became a red-light area with bars, and brothels.  Looks a bit different today 🙂

Love the architecture of these old, ornate buildings in SF.

Nothing says ‘San Francisco’ more than the historic SF cable cars.

The iconic 210-foot Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill, was built in 1932.

Beautiful view at the Cable Car ‘turn-around’ by the ocean.  Still reminds me of the Rice-a-Roni commercials.

Denise and Lynn having a silly moment – I’m sure it involved a song!

We are fortunate to meet Ben and Jerry!
Who knew they were seagulls?!

Had to tour through a Chinese pharmacy. Interesting shapes, textures, and smells.  Only wish I could have read the labels!

‘THE KISS’ – Pier 39 style!    Crazy fun sea lions.

Sea lion showing off – loud and clear !

Worn out from their antics, barking, and sea lion games, they all crash out for nap time on the pier.
They seem to love curling up in the crowd and soaking up the sunshine.

Beautiful view during dinner at Tarantino’s.

Dinner tonite, and tomorrow… we head to China!
